Welcome to The Superyacht Psychotherapist – a new initiative available to anyone working on yachts who may be suffering with their mental health, as well as the captains, pursers and managing agents in whose care they place their mental well-being.

Much has been written recently about Mental Health among superyacht crew being at a crisis point.

The goal of the Superyacht Psychotherapist is to combine my personal experience of this incredibly exciting yet often isolating way of life, with my work as a BACP registered, qualified counsellor / psychotherapist, to help those in the yachting industry, irrespective of their role on board, who may be experiencing difficulties with their mental health and who feel they have nowhere to turn.

Working on yachts may be a dream job but it’s a high-pressure environment.

The transient nature of the work, extended periods away from family and friends, little job security and frequent changes in crew dynamics can all lead to feelings of isolation and anxiety.

In addition to working as a yacht captain, I’m also a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist.

I have worked as crew and been lucky enough to be a guest – on charter and for private owners. A number of my immediate family, as well as several good friends currently work in yachting. I have witnessed the unique demands of life on board a superyacht and the effects these can have on any member of the crew – irrespective of their rank and experience.

I have seen for myself, that whatever one’s role on board, it is likely that we will all, at some point, face challenges around anxiety, depression, relationships, or any number of other work-related or personal issues.

I have worked in similar environments to yours, and while every person and every situation is totally unique, I have a degree of understanding of what you may be experiencing.

As a Person Centred Therapist my approach is rooted in empathy, respect and collaboration. I will tailor our sessions to meet your unique needs and, together, we will work towards understanding and overcoming the obstacles that stand in your way, enabling you to lead a more fulfilling and balanced life.

I believe that talking therapy should be a partnership, so whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or seeking deeper self-understanding, my goal will always be to listen without judgment and to support you in finding clarity, healing, and a path forward.

It would be a privilege to work with you on your journey to well-being.

As a qualified, BACP registered counsellor / psychotherapist, I am bound by a strict code of professional ethics and am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space.
